ATM Manufacturers

ATM manufacturers have enjoyed years of success with models that had only slight modifications in their appearance and functionality. Mostly, the units have been updated as mandates and compliance dictated. Now we are seeing the next generation emerge with a new set of impressive features. We’ve come a long way with retail ATMs. From very basic scrip terminals to enhanced ATMs with all the bells and whistles, we’ve been out there proving that access to funds is a great convenience to offer cardholders. Cash is still king and we all had a lot to do with that!

Many of the off-premise ATM units deployed today are reaching 10+ years of operation. With EMV on the horizon, many are considering replacing older ATMs with newer models that are factory-equipped and prepared for the next 10 years. Perhaps the cost to upgrade existing terminals exceeds the cost of a new model or the ATM has just seen its better days.

Two of the most impressive ATM entries this year are the Nautilus Hyosung Halo and Triton Argo. These may become the flagships for the next generation of off-premise ATMs. They offer the latest security and regulatory features: they use larger, more vivid screens: and they can send data to mobile devices. The Halo and Argo also offer eco-friendly ATM models that don’t utilize a receipt printer, instead sending digital receipts to cardholders.  Many consumers today prefer digital receipts and having the option to send the information by email. This saves paper and works well in the on-line/mobile world.

It is also clear that a lot of thought went into future-proofing these newer ATM models. They can be shipped with EMV card readers installed, for example. They continue to be PCI-compliant and to adhere to ADA regulations but have the option for RKT (Remote Key Transport). The Halo offers a unique recessed PIN pad that has LED lights that change color to attract users. That could be a great feature in many environments but the lights can also be dimmed or turned off completely if needed. They are versatile and very user-friendly. Most importantly, they continue to be very reliable and a vital customer touch point for many businesses.

These manufacturers also made the intelligent choice to use legacy components and proven software where possible, providing backwards compatibility across their product lines. It minimizes the number of parts that need to be on the shelf to cover your ATM fleet. These ATMs use the latest version of Windows CE operating system but the ATM communication protocol remains the standard that has been in place for years. They’ve found a good balance of new features with the core components and software that have long been successful and reliable. This is smart innovation enhancing a proven business model.

Kudos to Nautilus Hyosung and Triton ATM for refreshing the market with these vastly updated ATMs. The Halo and Argo look great and we’ll be seeing many of them deployed soon. High tech design with an attractive facade is a nice combination. It will help revitalize our retail market. It’s not only good for the ATM deployers; it’s also good for every cardholder needing a secure ATM to access their cash.
